Beyond Meat expands availability of Beyond Burger in Vancouver and across Canada
There's good news for those seeking plant-based alternatives to burgers.
While the ultra-popular Beyond Burger has already been available at some grocery stores in Metro Vancouver, the company is expanding its availability throughout the country.
Beyond Meat announced on April 23 that the plant-based Beyond Burger will be nationally distributed to grocery chains across Canada.
The Beyond Burger is free of soy, gluten, and GMOs. The patty is made from mung beans, yellow peas, beets, coconut oil, pomegranates, apples, rice, and potatoes.
Each patty is 270 calories and has 20 grams of protein, five grams of saturated fat, and 390 milligrams of sodium.
The burgers will be available by the end of May at Save on Foods, Whole Foods Market, IGA, Loblaw, Co-op Food Stores, Fresh Street Market, Longos Metro, and more.
Sobeys announced on April 25 that it will complete its roll-out across Canada to its stores today (April 26), which includes Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, Thrifty Foods, Foodland, Fresh Co, Bonichoix, Les Marchés Tradition, and Rachelle Béry.
For those in Vancouver who want to sample what the burger tastes like, Sobey will have in-store tastings on May 12 at Broadway Safeway (2733 West Broadway).
The Beyond Burger is served in the Lower Mainland at veggie-friendly Vancouver-based Meet Restaurants, A&W, Earls, White Spot, and Ève Café at Simons Park Royal.
When A&W Canada introduced the Beyond Burger in July 2018, it sold out of stock by mid-August. (It was restocked by October.)
A&W went on to add the Beyond Meat Sausage and Egger to its menu in March featuring a plant-based sausage served with an egg and cheddar cheese on an English muffin or burger bun. The vegetarian version, Beyond Meat Sausage and Veggie, is served with lettuce and tomato.
Meanwhile, Beyond Burgers have already been available for purchase in Metro Vancouver at some grocery stores.
B.C.–based Choices Market has been selling the burger in packages of two patties for $8.99 since November 21, 2018. Choices Market also started selling Beyond Meat’s Beyond Sausages on January 4 in three flavours: sweet Italian, hot Italian, and original Bratwurst (in packages of two sausages for $8.99).
The Los Angeles–based Beyond Meat, with headquarters in El Segundo and its processing plant in Columbia, Missouri, was founded in California in 2009.
