Although the name makes it sound like it’s from south of the border, a local sandwich shop is actually Vancouver-based.

The American Cheesesteak Co., which serves on the famous sandwich that traces its roots to Philadelphia, was launched by Vancouver chef and Food Network star Anthony Sedlak and co-owners in Vancouver in October 2011.

The menu spans three traditional cheesesteaks (classic, Philly, and New Yorker) with specialty variations, including a Vietnamese version (with satay prime rib, pickled daikon, cilantro, sriracha mayo, and more) and the “Korean hoagie” (bulgogi prime rib, kimchi, spicy miso mayo, and more).

Tragically, Anthony Sedlak, died at age 29 at his North Vancouver home on July 2, 2012.

Unfortunately, its location at 781 Davie Street, between the West End and Yaletown, has shut down.

A sign on the door states that they permanently closed that location on April 5.

The good news is that you can still get their sandwiches at their location at Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby.
