Vancouver's Avocado Bay is toast: English Bay eatery closes with new restaurant to come

Despite the trendiness of avocado, a restaurant focused on the green-hued fruit at Vancouver’s English Bay didn’t last.

Avocado Bay launched on Canada Day weekend in July 2017 at 1184 Denman Street, taking over the second-floor space formerly inhabited by Denman Taphouse.

Its views of English Bay alone were enough to help locals feel like they were on vacation.

Adding to that was its alligator-pear-based menu, with a range of tacos, chicken wings, guacamole, ceviche, burgers, salads, and the requisite toast.

Billing itself as "Canada's first avocado eatery and guacamole house", the avocado theme thoroughly covered all aspects, from avo burgers featuring avocados in the place of buns to desserts such as avocado cheesecake and avocado chocolate mousse.

Unfortunately, the concept didn’t quite catch on.

On March 19, the eatery announced that it had closed.

However, its website states that a new restaurant will be opening soon in its place.

The Georgia Straight has contacted the restaurant for more information.

Across the street, Beach Bay Café closed down in February, also with a new restaurant slated to take its place in the near future.
