A million little things certainly add up to a lot—and when it comes to film and TV productions in B.C., that's good news.

Numerous screen productions in British Columbia have provided major economic boosts, ranging from the filming of the TV series Riverdale, which spent over $60 million during its first two seasons, to Deadpool 2, which spent over $100 million.

The latest economic good news comes from TV drama series A Million Little Things, which filmed in Metro Vancouver from July 24, 2018, to February 4.

The series, set in Boston, Massachusetts, depicts how a circle of friends deals with the aftermath of the unexpected death of one of them. The series premiered on September 26.

Among the ensemble cast is Vancouver’s Grace Park, along with David Giuntoli, Ron Livingston, Romany Malco, Allison Miller, Christina Moses, Christina Ochoa, James Roday, Stephanie Szostak, Lizzy Greene, and Tristan Byon.

An economic report released by accounting firm MNP LLP today (May 1) reveals that production on Season 1 of the show resulted in over $27 million spent on expenditures in the province.

The amount involved over 750 local businesses including production facilities, equipment rentals, automobile rentals, metal fabricators, waste management, dry cleaners, alterations and repairs, hotels and restaurants, catering, and more.

Filming locations included the Pacific National Exhibition for its first two episodes, and it was one of 65 screen productions to film at the PNE in 2017, which contributed to the nonprofit organization pulling in over $1 million in revenue.

IATSE Local 891 business representative Phil Klapwyk stated in a news release that over 1,000 artists and technicians from his union worked on Season 1.

In February, A Million Little Things was renewed for a second season. According to a news release from the Motion Picture Association of Canada, if production spending remains the same for the second season, the economic impact is estimated to double in Season 2.
