Although a local Mexican street food chainlet had some sad news early this year, it's on track with much good news to share.
Tacomio launched in 2015 at 435 Abbott Street in Gastown, but shut down this year on January 16.
Owner Fernando Llanas had told the Georgia Straight by phone that the closure was due to the expiration of the lease and how the compact space limited their capabilities at the location.
However, Llanas had added that there were two new locations on the way and one has just opened up.
A new spot at 1300 Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver had its soft opening on May 3 and its grand opening on May 5—right on the celebratory day of Mexico's Cinco de Mayo.

As their name suggests, the focus is on tacos, but there are also burritos, salad bowls (with Mexican rice, pinto beans, spinach, sour cream, cheese, and more), macro bowls (with roasted beets, spiced pepitas, edamame, garbanzo beans, pearl barley, and more), and nachos.
With a build-your-meal model, fillings include turkey, chicken, pork, beef, or plant-based options such as crushed chipotle peppers, caramelized onions and jalapeño, and more.
In April, Tacomio introduced the Beyond Picadillo, which includes the plant-based Beyond Meat with crushed tomatoes, cannellini beans, and ancho peppers.
There’s also chicken chipotle soup and roasted tomato soup.
Those who love Mexican beverages will be pleased to know that their drink menu includes housemade coconut horchata and hibiscus iced tea, Jarritos, and more.
But that’s not all.
Up next is a 6,000-square-foot commissary kitchen in Strathcona at 1245 Glen Drive.
Although this won’t be a restaurant location, it will have a take-out window with new food items that they’ll be testing out before adding them to their menus.
Llanas had also said that they are searching for a location in Downtown Vancouver but nothing has been confirmed yet so stay tuned.
