Besides Mother’s Day brunch and dinner menus, many special afternoon tea services are also being served this weekend for the annual celebration.

This culinary experience is often regarded as a fancy occasion, so make an effort to impress mom by dressing the part while you enjoy tea in porcelain cups and finger-sized bites neatly placed on tiered trays.

Here are five places to find Mother’s Day afternoon tea around the city.

      Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (900 West Georgia Street)

Besides its current 80th anniversary afternoon tea offering, this iconic landmark in the city will also be serving a Mother’s Day Garden Party afternoon tea. Indulge in scones, various finger sandwiches (cucumber, smoked salmon, and shrimp and lobster), and sweet treats. The hotel’s popular Lot 35 tea will be paired with the meal, and guests will be able to snap some memorable photos in the room decorated with fresh florals. Adults receive a glass of bubbles or Caesar cocktail, and live music will provided.

      When: Available at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. on Sunday (May 12).

      Ikea

IKEA Richmond (3320 Jacombs Road, Richmond)

Yes, everyone’s favourite furniture store is offering an affordable Mother’s Day afternoon tea at its Richmond outlet. While you won’t necessarily find traditional tea-time staples here, unique bites like cheese-and-leek pie, pancakes with sweet cream, Swedish waffles, Daim chocolate cake, and Swedish almond cake will be on the menu. Ikea’s own loose-leaf tea blends, along with organic dark-roast coffee, lemongrass-and-peppermint cocoa, and fresh-fruit infused water will be served. Tickets are required and can be purchased at the shop’s restaurant.

When: Available at 1 and 3 p.m. on Sunday (May 12).

      Ladurée

Ladurée Boutique and Tea Salon (1141 Robson Street)

Whisk mom off to Paris without actually flying there. Ladurée’s Mother’s Day tea features tasty bites including its signature macarons, pastries, mini viennoiseries (baked goods), finger sandwiches, and fruit salad. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate is included, but guests can add a glass of champagne or cocktail for an additional charge.

When: Available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday (May 11 and 12).

      Origo Club

Origo Club (110–6888 River Road, Richmond)

This Richmond fine-dining establishment will be serving a special edition of its afternoon tea service for Mother’s Day weekend. Guests will start off with tea or coffee before enjoying sweet and savoury bites like duck, scones, and cheesecake inside its contemporary interior. Kick it up a notch with a glass of Barons de Rothschild champagne, cocktail, or mocktail for an additional charge.

When: Available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday (May 11 and 12).
