A local Thai chainlet is expanding once again and has returned to a neighbourhood it had to leave behind almost a decade ago.

It was a sad day for West Enders when Thai Away Home closed its location near Davie and Bute streets in the Davie Village back in 2010.

However, the restaurant opened a downtown location just outside the West End at 1081 Granville Street in 2016.

The good news is that Thai Away Home has returned to the West End, albeit in a different area than before.

The eatery announced opened a new location on June 14 in a 900-square-foot spot at 1517 Robson Street (between Nicola and Cardero streets).

At the former premises of the Chinese eatery Old Xian’s Food, the space accomodates 35 diners and will have an additional 15 seats on the patio in the near future.

The menu covers all the familiar favourites, including noodles, such as the ever-popular pad Thai; Thai coconut curries; appetizers, soups, and salads; entrees such as Swimming Rama (chicken or tofu with spinach and spicy peanut sauce), Thai basil seafood stir fry, and barbecue chicken with papaya salad; and desserts.

A recent addition to the menu is pineapple fried rice, with other new additions to come soon.

Thai Away Home launched back in 1995 and, in addition to the other two spots, has location at 3315 Cambie Street.
