It was a delicious day at the Georgia Straight office (1635 West Broadway) on August 29.
Local gelato and ice-cream vendors converged at the Straight’s headquarters, as part of a Food Affair: our new, free pop-up food series.
Exclusive invitations to the Summer Ice Cream Tasting event were sent out to our newsletter subscribers, which reached full capacity within minutes.
Doors opened at 3 p.m., and 100 lucky subscribers indulged in free samples of delicious frozen treats from several popular vendors.
Well-loved establishments like Earnest Ice Cream, Passione Gelato, Uno Gelato, and Elephant Garden Creamery were on hand to scoop up the goods inside the Straight’s lobby, which was transformed into a vibrant, ice-cream bazaar for the afternoon.
Guests had their hands full, as each vendor made sure to provide generous amounts of frozen desserts.
Some of the featured flavours included Hong-Kong milk tea and mango-coconut sticky rice (vegan) from Elephant Garden Creamery, bourbon peach and vegan-matcha chocolate chip from Earnest Ice Cream, vegan Bronte pistachio and Piedmont hazelnut from Passione Gelato, and salted caramel and midnight chocolate sorbetto from Uno Gelato.
The hot weather coupled with a solid line-up of sweet businesses attracted many people from the community for our inaugural event.
But let’s be honest, the deep love that Vancouverites have for ice cream and gelato probably means they would come out even if it was pouring rain.
