After a New Westminster restaurant was robbed on the Labour Day long weekend, a Vancouver man is facing numerous charges

Around 6:40 a.m. on September 1, patrol officers responded to a report about a restaurant in the 800 block of Carnarvon Street in New Westminster that had been robbed.

A suspect allegedly entered the establishment and demanded money from staff before leaving. After witnesses chased the suspect, he fled the area.

Vancouver officers later arrested him and transferred him to the New Westminster Police Department.

Joshua Mathias, a 22-year-old from Vancouver, has been charged with several offences, including robbery, facial disguise with intent to commit an offence, two counts of assault while using a weapon, forcible confinement, motor-vehicle theft, and escape from lawful custody.

Mathias will next appear in provincial court in New Westminster on September 23.
