The theme was green at the Georgia Straight’s headquarters yesterday (November 28), where vegan culinary samplings were the stars of the show.
Exclusive invitations were sent out to our newsletter subscribers, and a lucky handful snagged tickets to try vegan bites from popular eateries around town.
Doors opened just before 3 p.m. to allow guests to warm up from the chilly weather, before they got to indulge in treats from Do Chay Saigon Vegetarian, Bonus Bakery, La Glace Ice Cream, and Flourgirl Baking.
Featured vegan bites included Flourgirl Baking’s cinnamon buns (with flavours like cococandy cane, pumpkin spice, and pepperoni pizza roll), sponge toffee and candy cane ice cream from La Glace, the Bonus Cookie (made with Oreo bits, corn flakes, vegan marshmallows, and a pretzel), and mushroom spring rolls with peanut sauce from Do Chay.
The cold weather didn’t deter ticket-holders to make their way to the event, because the publication’s reception area was packed with hungry food-lovers excited to try some of the city’s cult-favourite vegan offerings.
