One of Vancouver’s pioneers in the culinary business will be shuttering later this year.

Local cookware shop Ming Wo will be closing down its original Chinatown location (23 East Pender Street) in a few months, before the summer.

“The owners here are retiring,” Fontaine Wong, a spokesperson for Ming Wo, told the Straight in a phone interview. “The head office is just going to be moved to another location.”

The business has not been sold to another party, and its other establishments in Metro Vancouver (South Granville, Kitsilano, and Burnaby) will continue to operate.

“I want to thank all our customers for their love, support, and kind words,” added Wong. “We still have three other locations to meet their culinary needs.”

Ming Wo opened its first brick-and-mortar shop in Chinatown in 1917. The century-old business specializes in cookware, which range from electrics to bakeware, and from knives to cooking tools.
