If you love fish-and-chips, put this new Vancouver spot on your radar.

Catchweight is the latest food truck to launch in the city, which specializes in light beer-herbed battered fish-n-chips, which is served with tartare sauce, lemon, and malt vinegar.

Located at Resurrection Spirits (1672 Franklin Street), the new fried-fish eatery was created by the same people behind DL Chicken Shack and Downlow Burgers: Doug Stephen and Lindsey Mann.

The menu uses North Pacific Hake, an Ocean Wise sustainable fish caught off the west coast.

Besides its fish-n-chips, guests will be able to try other items like fish tacos (with lime, chipotle mayo, slaw, and fresh pico), a signature fish sando (with cheddar cheese, tartare sauce, and Livia’s potato bun), albacore tuna tostada (with avocado, corn tortilla, pickled red onion, cilantro, sesame, and crispy bits), and more.

“Our friend Brian at Resurrection Spirits approached Lindsey and I with the idea of doing fish-n-chips at his distillery and the food truck idea was born,” said Stephen in a press statement. “We love fried fish and the fish sando was especially fun to develop.”

Food-lovers who are familiar with Stephen’s creations will know that he loves to do collaborations—expect to see a Sunday collab between DL Chicken and Catchweight in the near future (think hot fish).

If you’re wondering why they chose the name “Catchweight” for the food truck, it’s because the word is a used in describing the actual weight of seafood, like fish. It’s also a boxing term, and Brian Grant, the founder of Resurrection Spirits, is also a boxing trainer.

Catchweight is currently open Thursday to Saturday (6 to 10:30 p.m.), and Sunday (noon to 4 p.m.) or until it’s sold out.

The new food truck uses Ocean Wise sustainable fish.
