2021 Chinese Restaurant Awards signature dish winners announced

      The winners of the 2021 Chinese Restaurant Awards were announced during a ceremony at the Vancouver Club on November 16.

      Winners received a total of 41 awards at the 13th annual event, including 13 recipients of the Critics' Choice Signature Dish Awards, which are determined throughout the previous calendar year by a team of critics secretly dining in restaurants.

      This year's tasters for the signature dishes were judging chair Lee Man and Brendon Mathews, Alexandra Gill, and William Ho Wood Kuen.

      Seven of the 13 winners have never won before in this category, and two—Chef’s Choice Chinese Cuisine and Bamboo Grove Restaurant—won two prizes apiece.

      Of the seven first-time victors, two non-Chinese restaurants and their chefs were singled out for mention in the critics'-choices award announcement for their use of "Chinese elements": in their menus. These were the Sutton Place Hotel Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar's executive chef Roger Ma for his  Dry-aged Chinese BBQ style Duck and Quail, and pastry chef Andrew Han of the Kouign Café for his White Rabbit Cookie.
