Food Cart Fest sets up shop in False Creek

Food Cart Fest returns starting June 23—but in a new location. Last year’s popular weekly gathering of Vancouver food trucks took place outside the Waldorf Hotel. This year, organizers have announced a new venue: 215 West 1st Street between the Olympic Village and the Cambie Bridge.

Presented by the Arrival Agency and the Streetfood Vancouver Society, Food Cart Fest will feature more than 20 food trucks each week, as well as live music, community vendors, crafts, and kids’ activities.

Participating food trucks include Holy Perogy, Feastro the Rolling Bistro, Guanaco Salvadoran Cuisine, the Juice Truck, Le Tigre, Kaboom Box, Mom’s Grilled Cheese, Roaming Dragon, Mogu Japanese Street Eats, PazzaRella, the Reef Runner, Vij’s Railway Express, ZeBite, Yolk’s Breakfast, Taser Grilled Cheese, Tacofino, Soho Road Naan Kebab, Aussie Pie Guy, the Chili Tank, Dougie Dog, Didi’s Greek, Finest at Sea, JJ’s Trucketeria, and Street Meet.

Food Cart Fest will run every Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m. until September 22. Admission to the weekly festival is $2 and children 13 and under enter for free.

Admission fee??? So a family of five (kids are above 13 yrs) would have to pay $10.00 + parking (any free parking in that vicinity?)
In Portland, one would never have to pay to go to the food trucks. May be Arrival Agency should not include the live music, crafts vendors & kids' activities. Because every event in Vancouver is starting to have the same format... just saying.

Admission fee? What about just having people come and enjoy the food and atmosphere. This city is expensive enough and needs to have more good family events that don't charge ! Chinese night market doesn't charge any entrance and look at how many people go to eat there...

This seems like a bad spot to me. It's a very dusty parking lot and although it's 'near' the Olympic village it's very isolated from the busiest parts. There is some free parking but it's limited and foot traffic isn't that heavy here on the weekend. I'm guessing they're zeroing in on the youngish condo dwellers on either end of the street.

I agree with Just Sayin about the admission fee. It's ridiculous. Paying money for the privilege to buy lunch doesn't make sense. It's like having a toll both at the entrance of a mall.

A toonie and children free does not seem overly expensive. I guess it just depends on the added attractions.

Food trucks just create more litter and garbage.
Usually the food is very high fat and best avoided.

Do yourself and the environment a favour-don't go.
Go for a walk, bike ride, shop at a farmers market-you and the Earth will be a lot better off.

To Blossom: may be you don't have any kids. Do you even use public transit in this city ie 3 buses just to get from A to B (and it is not free!) Do the math please! For some of us $20 was hard earned money.

You obviously did not get my point: we are not a well-off family and this event is obviously targeting deeper pockets (those not the least bothered to have to pay to buy lunch in a secluded unattractive spot AND as I've stated before: it is the same boring format for every festival or event in this city!)

      @Just Saying

We've heard a few people express their concerns about the admission fee to Food Cart Fest this year. We made it as low as possible and without it this event would, unfortunately, not be possible. The $2 goes towards covering the festival's production, rent, and entertainment expenses. It essentially offsets the cost of doing Food Cart Fest without the Waldorf's infrastructure, which we had last year.

For families, the maximum price of admission will be $5 and If the cost is truly prohibitive to you attending Food Cart Fest, please get in touch and we will sort you out. We hope to see you all there.

As far as the rest of your comment, we assure we won't be doing "the same boring format for every festival or event in this city!

      Sorry

Just can't bring myself to pay for admission for the opportunity to pay for food.
