If you're looking for beer and a bite, there's one more brewpub to choose from in Vancouver.

In late March, Calgary's Big Rock Brewery softly opened Big Rock Urban Brewery at 310 West 4th Avenue (at Alberta Street). The brewery, which is about a five-minute walk from the Olympic Village Canada Line Station, also has a pub and restaurant. This Friday (April 10) is the official grand opening.

The Big Rock Urban Eatery--a.k.a. BRU Eatery--has a lounge with floor-to-celing glass wall looking into the brewery and a stage for live entertainment.

The lounge has a view of the brewery.

Executive chef Alex Newton is at the helm. Formerly the culinary manager at Famoso Neapolitian Pizzeria, Newton sources local, sustainable products when possible from suppliers like Oyama and Finest at Sea.

He is using Big Rock's beer in his cooking, as well as in condiments like hop salt, IPA vinaigrette, malt vinegar, and a stout balsamic vinaigrette reduction. Newton's Instagram feed hints at what's on the menu, such as Asian poutine with IPA kimchi.

This weekend, the restaurant launches brunch.

Brewmaster Jody Hammell, who was formerly at Whistler Brewing Company, heads the on-site brewery, which can produce 20,000 hectolitres of beer.

There's a tasting room where you can try the first Big Rock Urban beer, Hollow Tree Pacific Red Ale, which is only available in B.C., and fill growlers. Brewery tours are available, and a store sells bottles to go.

As part of the grand opening this Friday and Saturday (April 10 and 11), self-guided tours through the brewery will also be available.

The restaurant and lounge is open from 11 a.m. to midnight daily, with the growler bar and tasting room open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

There's free parking for about 20 vehicles, a bike rack, and an EV charging station.
