If you get hungry while checking out the tasting room of New Westminster’s Steel & Oak Brewing Co., head to the Terminal Pub (115 12th Street), a five-minute walk away.

This area on the Stewardson Way thoroughfare is changing along with the rest of New West, and the long-standing watering hole now offers a good craft-beer selection, including rotating taps for S & O and Victoria’s Moon Under Water beers.

The food is good too, with options like handmade perogies and fish tacos. I liked the Smurf Burger ($13), which has a beef patty made in-house, Portobello mushroom, cambozola cheese, greens with blue-cheese dressing, and garlic aioli; it comes with excellent hearty waffle fries.
