B.C. Liquor Stores’ annual Bordeaux release is happening this Saturday (October 3).

“Each year, the highly anticipated event attracts wine enthusiasts and collectors—and more recently, an increasingly diverse, younger crowd—all interested in taking home a bottle from one of the world’s best-known wine regions,” reads a September 28 media release.

Wine enthusiasts will likely want to wake up early if they don’t want to miss out. While the government has gathered an impressive collection of more than a hundred 2012 wines from the Bordeaux region of France, just 2,000 cases are up for grabs.

As in previous years, the bottles will be sold through B.C. Liquor Stores’ 12 Signature locations. Prices range from $28 to $2,800 per bottle.

“More than two years ago, the selections were made from ‘en primeur’ tastings in Bordeaux and the wines have been resting in barrel and bottle until now,” the release continues. “Overall purchases were very focused for this release and a strict selection was done to pick the wines that best represent their classifications and appellations. 2012 was a year that resulted in plummy Merlot-based wines, structured Cabernet Sauvignon and crisp whites. This is the time to build your own cellar with age-worthy wines or to consider gifts for the upcoming holidays. Hundreds of people will line up in order to stake their claim on the rarest wines of the year.”

Vancouver’s Signature store at Cambie and 39th Street is the only location where the complete collection will be available. Stores at Richmond Brighouse, Alberni and Bute, and Park Royal will also carry extensive varieties.

Detailed information including a description of each bottle and purchase restrictions is available at the B.C. Liquor Stores website.
