Central City to release Red Racer Radler and Hopping Mad Cider Radler for a taste of summer

The trees are blooming, the sun is shining, and we are days away from the official end of winter, which means soon, a new season will be upon us... Radler season.

Thanks to Central City Brewers, Vancouverites will have two new choices when it comes to picking out a brand of the refreshing grapefruit-infused beer.

The name Radler comes from the German word for "cyclists", so it makes sense that Central City, a brewery passionate about cycling, has brewed its own version of a beer that German brewers created specifically for those who prefer two wheels.

Following the tradition of mixing beer and juice, Central City has used a light blonde ale as a base, and rounded out the flavour with grapefruit juice and a touch of lemon juice. The result? A blend that offers a mix of malt flavour with tangy citrus notes and a hint of acidity. The Red Racer Radler clocks in at 3.5% ABV. Brewmaster Gary Lohin says it makes a great candidate if you're looking to "replace that boring mimosa during a weekend brunch."

"The Radler is the perfect patio drink when the weather is warm... it's a refreshing lightly flavoured craft beer blended with ruby red grapefruit juice, resulting in a low alcohol beer with blanaced acidity and citrus flavour," says Lohin in a press release.

Central City has also created the first Canadian-brewed cider radler by blending an off-dry premium apple cider and Florida grapefruit juice to create their Hopping Mad Cider Radler (4.2% ABV). The balaced beverage offers both tart and sweet notes, plus, if you're worried about your wheat intake, rest assured: the cider radler is gluten-free.

Lohin calls the cider radler "a slightly tart refreshing drink" that's "perfect for those who are looking for something a little different for summer."

Both the Red Racer Radler and Hopping Mad Cider Radler will be available in 473mL cans in liquor stores in B.C., Alberta, and Ontario, as well as on draught, in late March.

If you just can't wait to try it, Central City will be hosting a Radler launch event at the Tap & Barrel Convention Centre's Barrel Room from 6:30 p.m. until late.
