Chefs, servers, mixologists, barbers, and anyone who is in any way associated with the service sector: the Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association wants you.

The nonprofit organization is preparing for its fifth annual Restaurant Rumble, which takes place on July 27 at the Commodore Ballroom, and will be hosting tryouts for the event at Eastside Boxing Club (238 Keefer Street) on April 23 and 24.

Now in its fifth year, the Restaurant Rumble pits service employees against one another in the ring—essentially having them trade in their aprons for boxing gloves—all in the name of charity. Proceeds from the ticketed face-off benefit the Eastside Boxing Club’s at-risk youth programs in the Network of Inner City Community Service Society.

Interested contenders must work in the service industry or be sponsored by a local employer in the service industry. Contestants must also complete training at Eastside Boxing Club leading up to the event and raise a minimum of $2,000 through a personal Fundrazr page.

To participate in the showdown, boxers should also have a suitable match-up in both weight and skill.

Those interested should sign up online before attending the tryouts later this month.

Once fighters have been chosen, match-ups will be announced on July 10. A dress rehearsal and contender weigh-in will take place on July 26, one day before the main event.

Tickets for the Restaurant Rumble will be available beginning in July.

Last year, the Eastside Boxing Club announced a spin-off affair, Beer Wars, which will see craft industry pros entering the ring for the same cause. Tickets for the event, which takes place next Sunday (April 17) at Caprice Nightclub (967 Granville Street) are available online.
