Got a sweet-tooth? Here are two new places to check out to satisfy those sugar cravings. Interestingly enough, not only are these both dessert places, but both offer desserts with hollow centres.

      More demand for donuts

      Because everyone loves donuts.

Cartems Donuterie continues to expand its reach across the city by opening its third location in Kitsilano today (July 5). The new 1,600-square-foot spot, which seats about 30 people, can be found at 3040 West Broadway.

For those unfamiliar with this local donut shop, Cartems is known for its local ingredients and progressive flavours, including the likes of Earl Grey and Canadian whiskey bacon. Special flavours have even included lavender, watermelon, root beer, and key lime. Yum.

In addition to donuts, Cartems also serves caffeination from Elysian Coffee and selections from Earnest Ice Cream.

Its other two locations are at 534 West Pender and 2190 Main Street.

      Hungry for Hungarian cakes

Kürtősh Hungarian Pastry and Bistro opened in Kerrisdale at 2855 West 41st Avenue back in March.

If you haven't heard of them already, Kürtősh specializes in kürtőskalács, or chimney cakes. They're made by roasting strips of dough around a cone-shaped spit while basted with melted butter.

They're then coated in various toppings, including poppy seed, cinnamon, almond, coconut, Nutella, Oreo, and matcha with red bean.

The cakes (which has a texture more akin to bread or buns) are served spooled around wooden dowels.

Yet, for those who aren't interested in sweet options, there are also savoury versions, such as cheese bread, bacon and cheese, olive cheese, and the Chimney Dog (wrapped around a wiener).

That's in addition to open sandwiches, goulash, and salad.

A coffee and specialty tea menu, including loose-leaf teas, tea lattes, and iced tea, complement the food items.
