Gluten lovers, rejoice. A popular Whistler bakery has opened a permanent location in Vancouver. Purebread (159 Hastings Street) launched in Gastown on October 6 and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Co-owners Mark and Paula Lamming set up the first Purebread location in Function Junction, a few kilometers south of Whistler, in 2010.

A second location opened in Whistler Village in 2013, but closed five months later after a fire tore through the building. According to Purebread’s website, the company plans on rebuilding the Whistler shop in the fall and open by Christmas.

The bakery has developed a large following in the Lower Mainland by selling at farmer’s markets in Vancouver and Squamish. An employee at Purebread in Vancouver confirmed that the bakery will continue to attend farmer’s markets at Hastings Park and Nat Bailey Stadium throughout the winter.

As the name implies, Purebread bakes over 20 different loaves. Find classic breads such as baguette, ciabatta, and rye, as well as a number of unique flavours including sour cherry pecan, lavender rosemary, and asiago black pepper.

The bakery also offers plenty of treats to satisfy customers with a sweet tooth. Cakes, scones, cookies, brownies, galettes, croissants, and brioches are all made daily.

The Vancouver location is located in the heritage Flack Block Building across from Victory Square. The shop features a long take-out counter displaying all of the bake goods with tables and seating for in-house diners.

If the ever present line-ups at all the Farmer's Markets are anything to go by... Purebread's customers don't think about anything except how good it tastes. I checked out the storefront today and there was still a line-up but we were warm and dry. The bread is $5.50 a loaf and is worth it, my only complaint is they sell out too fast.
