Thinking of friends and family across Canada? You can buy them a drink or a meal at a restaurant or bar close to them through a new Vancouver-developed Android and iPhone app called Guusto.

Choose a venue in one of 250 cities and towns (or leave it up to the recipient), a dollar amount, and a recipient from your phone’s contacts list. The app sends them an email or text message with a bar code for redeeming the gift, as well as a personal message from you.
