If there's one thing more than sushi, tacos, poke, craft beer, and ice cream that this city can't get enough of, it's coffee. Needless to say, there's a perpetual revolving door of places opening and closing.

Here's a roundup of coffee houses that have recently opened up.

Nemesis Coffee

Far from the nature of its inverted heart symbol and name, this spot in Gastown has been befriending droves since it opened in February on the ground floor at the new SFU building at 302 West Hastings. And it's easy to see why.

The 1,500-square-foot, 40-seater space flaunts a crisp and smart design with light shades of wood set off against concrete.

And then there's the coffee.

An aficionado's haven, this shop imports Berlin's Five Elephant Coffee (such as Ethiopian Biftu Gudina, Kenyan Kamviu AA, Brazilian Novo Canaã Obatã, and Kenyan Kamwangi AA) as well as Toronto's Pilot Coffee Roasters.

There's also an compelling range of food items, such as waffles with coffee-smoked duck breast, braised duck leg, and crispy rendered duck fat with cucumber and red-eye hoisin sauce.

Other brunchy items include poached egg with smashed avocado, ricotta, cilantro, and maple syrup on toast; vegan-friendly bircher muesli with oats, grains, fruit, granola, jam, and tonka; and spelt and buckwheat porridge with sprouted grains, kumquats, and crème fraîche.

Prado Café

Launched in 2004, the casual and cool Prado Café now has two cafés and two cafés with kitchens.  

The first Prado Café and Kitchen opened in 2015 at 4208 Fraser Street. It's been followed up with a new spot at 1809 Fir Street, which opened in the Armoury District on March 1.

It takes over the premises from the former Café Bica.

Yet another café and kitchen is in the works and will open in Surrey at 3 Civic Plaza.

The kitchen menus offer all-day breakfast items, such as toast or waffles, as well as lunch selections, including sandwiches (with organic bread from A Bread Affair), wraps, and salads. All food is made inhouse from local, organic ingredients and all location serve 49^th Parallel Coffee.

Incognito Coffee

Short, sweet, and to the point, this petite Euro-style coffee shop opened up on March 27 at 823 Granville Street in the heart of the downtown action.

The drinks menu covers everything from espressos and Americanos to London Fog, matcha, and chai. There are also a selection of smoothies, teas, grilled sandwiches, Hungarian goulash, and salads.
