If you think you’re a brave eater, check out the grub that will be on offer at this year’s Fair at the PNE (2901 East Hastings Street), which runs August 19 to September 4.

The annual family-friendly attraction has unveiled a list of new food items that will be available next month, and the culinary choices will likely elicit feelings of excitement and fear.

Attendees will get to try everything from cricket burgers to pizza bites to cookie-and-cream glazed donuts, among others.

If you’re an adventurous eater, here are 10 things to indulge in at this year’s fair.

      1. Roasted BBQ Cricket Burger

Not your conventional burger, but crickets are high in protein and fiber so you’ll be getting your fair share of nutrition. You’ll notice a crunch when you take a bite—don’t be alarmed.

      2. Deep-Fried Pizza Bites

Pizza is already an all-time favourite on its own, but when you pair it up with a frying pan and batter, it gets even better. Be prepared for loads of hand-pulled mozzarella, pizza sauce, and pepperoni.

      3. Crispy Chicken Feet

Known as a delicacy in Chinese cuisine (especially on the dim sum menu), chicken feet will be making its way to the fair this year. It will be crispy, full of flavour, and served on a stick for easier consumption.

      4. Chili Lime Popcorn Shrimp Perogies

These traditional perogies will feature a unique Asian flavour, complete with crispy panko shrimp drizzled with a sweet chili glaze and Sriracha mayo, and served with lime and mint cucumbers.

      5. Cookies-and-Cream Glazed Donuts

There’s nothing frightening about these babies, just everything delicious. Classic mini donuts dipped in a honey glaze and coated with Oreo cookies—yum.

      6. Cricket Fries

If you can’t get enough of the high-protein crickets, we suggest trying the barbecue-flavoured cricket fries. Your order will be served in a basket filled with fries, crickets, and gravy—consider it an insect poutine.

      7. Double Bacon Mac N Cheese Super Foot long Hotdog

Forget the calories and focus on the grub. This sizeable food item showcases an award-winning bacon wrapped foot long topped with homemade mac-n-cheese.

      8. Oreo Rice Pudding

This item is another fusion dessert for the Oreo-lovers to try. If you have a liking for Thai sweets, then you’ll enjoy this dish made with rice cooked in coconut milk paired with the classic black-and-white cookies.

      9. Bacon Pickle Balls

This will be an adventurous pick for someone who has never tried pickles or a corndog. This sphere-shaped snack features bacon wrapped around a hot dog and pickle, enclosed by batter that is deep-fried to a crispy golden state.

      10. Cherry Coca-Cola Ice Cream

Those with a sweet tooth will enjoy the fair’s creamy soft-serve ice cream infused with Cherry Coca-Cola—a unique twist on traditional ice cream flavours.
