Celebrate National Rum Day with bright and boozy Bacardi Cup

According to the always trustworthy Internet, today (August 16) is National Rum Day. Never ones to turn down a celebration involving an alcoholic beverage of any kind, we scoured our liquor cabinets with a mojito in mind before realizing, what with the state of the world we currently live in, we were in the mood for something with a little more… kick.

Luckily, Chris Mosey, bar manager at Yaletown’s Brix and Mortar (1138 Homer Street), has come through with the Bacardi Cup, a bright and boozy mix of rum, Amaro Nonino, and lemon, mango, and grapefruit juices that’s as summery as it is photogenic.

The sip uses Bacardi Gran Reserva Maestro, which tastes faintly of plum, caramel, and vanilla, and boasts bunches of fruit slices and oregano leaves. (Trust us, it works.) Multiply the recipe by six or seven to craft yourself a pitcher if you’ve had a particularly rough week and bottoms up!

      Bacardi Cup

      Ingredients
1 1⁄2 parts Bacardi Gran Reserva Maestro
1 1⁄2 parts pink grapefruit juice
      3⁄4 parts Amaro Nonino
      1⁄2 part fresh lemon juice
      1 part mango juice
      5-7 oregano leaves
      1 grapefruit slice
      3-4 pineapple chunks
      Top with ginger beer

      Method
Simply combine all ingredients in a glass over cubed ice, top with ginger beer. No need to garnish, the drink already looks stunning but a mint sprig/oregano sprig wouldn't be out of place.
