If you’ve never visited Mexico before, you’re in luck—a small part of the food and culture-rich country will be making its way to Vancouver next month.

Market Mexico, a free outdoor Mexican-inspired market, will take place on September 16 at UBC Robson Square’s lower plaza (800 Robson Street) from 11:30 a.m. to midnight.

Presented by Arrival Agency, the Mexico Tourism Board, and Los Cabos Tourism, this one-day pop-up market will boast plenty of food, artisanal goods, music, and other entertainment.

Visitors can expect an immersive Mexican cultural experience complete with tasty dishes (tacos, Mexican corn, churros), libations (aguas frescas, agave spirits), dried goods, produce, films, and a virtual reality experience.

“Market Mexico will be a revolutionary event in which food, ambiance, sound, and smells will transport all our visitors to Mexico for one day,” said Rodrigo Díaz de Rivera Vargas of the Mexico Tourism Board, in a press statement. “It’s going to be a fun, unique event as we want Vancouver to experience Mexico and everything it has to offer.”

Those who RSVP to the event online will be entered to win a trip for two to Mexico, which includes flights and a three night accommodation at a luxury hotel.

“We can’t wait to offer Vancouverites a taste of Mexico through the mercado (market) experience,” said Arrival Agency’s Ernesto Gomez, in a press statement. “Markets are the true and real example of Mexican culture. If you want to know, taste and understand Mexico that is where you have to start.”
