Some local foodies have known for quite a long time that Vancouver's best-known culinary couple was splitsville.

But this week the news reached all the way to Seattle that the marriage of Vikram Vij and Meeru Dhalwala has ended. They remain friends and partners in a variety of food-related businesses, including Vij's and My Shanti.

In an article in Pacific NW Magazine posted on the Seattle Times website, Rebekah Denn reports that things came to a head as Dhalwala was commuting between Vancouver and Seattle to operate her Indian restaurant, Shanik, in the Emerald City. The Seattle eatery attracted rave reviews but didn't survive.

"She and Vij had to navigate new partnerships in business and parenting, retaining bonds they say will always tie them together," Denn writes.

According to the article, Vij and Dhalwala still eat dinner together on Sunday nights with their grown daughters.
