Apples are one of the most popular fruits during the fall because it is perfect for making pies, hot cider, and many more delicious creations.
Besides picking up these fruits at your local grocery store or farmers market, you can also check out an upcoming family-friendly event that is dedicated to these tasty goods.
Approximately 34,000 pounds of organic and conventionally grown apples will be available for sale. Over 63 apple varieties will be on offer at the event’s apple tasting tent, including Cox’s Orange Pippin, Belle de Boskoop, and Glockenapfel. More than 70 kinds of apple trees will also be for sale.
Children will be entertained by activities like face-painting, crafts, grams, and the ability to jump into a giant leaf pile (which serves as a perfect photo opportunity).
A scarecrow contest, grafting and cider-pressing demonstrations will also take place, as well as performances by dancers, singers, and musicians.
Some of the other attractions at the garden include the Greenheart TreeWalk (which will offer special event pricing), and the Garden Centre that will showcase many fruit and ornamental trees.
Don’t worry about getting hungry—food items like apple pie, hot apple cider, pizza, and chocolate treats will be served at the food fair.
Admission ($5 cash for adults, free for children 12 years and under) includes entry to the UBC Botanical Garden.
A bike valet will be available at the main entrance, and a free shuttle bus from UBC Campus West Parkade and Fraser River Parkade will begin at 9:30 a.m. No parking will be available at the garden.
The UBC Apple Festival aims to be a zero-waste event.More
