New District, a Vancouver-based online wine shop, is once again releasing a 24-bottle wine advent calendar for the holiday season.
Available by online order beginning today (October 26), the decidedly adult-oriented calendar features two dozen bottles of red, white, and sparkling wines curated by New District's director of wine and local vino pro DJ Kearney. The wines will come from nine different countries—including a few from Canada—and will arrive at customers' doors individually tissue-wrapped, numbered, and packaged in four flat-pack cardboard boxes or three reusable wooden cases.
The cardboard-box option will set wine lovers back $999, while the wooden-case choice will cost a cool $1,099. (That's an average of price-point of $42 or $46 a bottle; the wines retail regularly for up to $76 each.)
The advent calendars will start to ship mid-November with orders placed before November 20 guaranteed to arrive at their destinations by December 1. Shipping is free within B.C. Alternately, the boxes or cases may be picked up at New District's brick-and-mortar store (5650 Dunbar Street).
In addition to the wildly popular 24-bottle advent cal—the past two iterations sold out within weeks—New District is also offering a 12-day wine advent calendar that will feature a dozen bottles of reds, whites, rosés, and sparkling varieties. This, too, is available by cardboard box ($499) or wooden case ($549).
Custom wine advent calendars, in which customers may pick their own wines, are also available on New District's website.More
