B.C. Liquor Stores has unveiled its premium spirit release for 2017 and among this year’s coveted selections is a 50-year-old bottle of Islay Scotch priced at a cool $32,000.

Aged in sherry casks and first bottled in 1993 at the Bowmore distillery, the single malt, named the Black Bowmore 1964, contains the last remnants of a dram that has obtained legendary status in the realm of spirits. As part of the whisky’s fifth and final international release, one bottle out of only 159 will be made available in Canada.

That flask, along with over 100 other sought-after varieties of quality whiskies, gins, and rums, will be released at B.C. Liquor Store’s Cambie Street location on Saturday (November 4) at 9:30 a.m. Twenty-nine other B.C. Liquor Store locations across the province will also be carrying a selection of these spirits, though it’s the Cambie Street outpost that will boast the broadest assortment as well as the single bottle of Bowmore Black.

Other available libations include the Bowmore 25-Year-Old Islay ($345), which is described as having a “crème brulee topping, with chopped basil, mint, and honey on the nose”; the Bunnahabhain 46-Year-Old ($10,390), the oldest single malt to ever come from Scotland’s renowned Bunnahabhain distiller; and Hanyu Ichiro’s Malt the Joker ($5,280), which contains notes of “praline, damson jam, and fine tannins”.

In addition to Japanese whiskies and spirits from India, France, Italy, Canada, and the U.S. will be on sale. Prices start at $45.99 and there are bottle limits in place for many varieties. Lineups are expected, particularly at B.C. Liquor Stores’ Cambie Street location.
