Benkei Ramen to reopen in Fairview after temporary closure due to water damage

Fans of Benkei Ramen have had to do without the Fairview shop’s noodles for the past few months, or had to turn to the nearby Hokkaido Ramen Santouka or the longrunning Menya Japanese Noodle to fulfill their Japanese noodle needs.

Unfortunately in September, Benkei suffered water damage and had to temporarily close as it underwent repairs at 545 West Broadway (at Cambie Street).

However, there's good news for ramen-lovers as it is now ready to reopen, with a soft opening scheduled for Wednesday to Friday (November 15 to 17) with limited hours from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (last call is at 3:30 p.m.).

Regular business hours will resume on Saturday (November 18).

Benkei formerly had locations on Robson Street and West Broadway in Kitsilano, which have since shut down.

Benkei, which offers tonkotsu (pork-based) broth simmered for up to 12 hours to produce umami flavours, offers a range of ramen ($9.25 to $9.75), such as shoyu, shio, tori-shio, miso, in addition to special selections, such as curry ramen as well as spicy akaoni (red-horned demon) ramen.

There’s also beef curry rice, not to mention seasonal specials such as iceberg ramen (with frozen housemade chicken broth) and cold-noodle ramen in the summer. Another vegan ramen to be added to the menu is currently in the works.
