The area near the intersection of Broadway and Granville Street will boast its own weekend pop-up food-truck festival for the entire summer.
The South Granville Business Improvement Association announced today (May 27) that the movable feast is called TGIF (Thank Granville It's Food trucks!) and will be located alongside a park on the northeast corner of nearby 10th Avenue and Fir Street.
In a release, the local business group said its aim with the fest is to "revive the neighbourhood and community...[by] inviting all the food lovers to South Granville to enjoy the best of Vancouver’s food trucks".
The food trucks, more than 20 of them, will have varying weekly schedules, starting on June 4, that can be viewed at @tgifoodtrucks.
The festival will run on Fridays and Saturdays until September's Labour Day long weekend, with hours of operation being 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days.
Many of the trucks have been selling their specialties on city streets and at events like the various Vancouver farmers markets for years. Newer trucks, like Dos Amigos Tex-Mex, will showcase their food alongside truck-scene veterans such as Beavertails, Mom’s Grilled Cheese, Reel Mac and Cheese, Tornado Potato, and Salty’s Lobster Shack.
Some of the other participating vendors will be Brownie Bakers, Cazba, English Bay Mini Donuts, Holimasala, KYU Grill, Meet2Eat, Mr. Arancino, SAJeterian, Shameless Buns, Super Thai, and Yo Bones BBQ.
“We are excited to welcome everyone back to South Granville this summer,” Ivy Haisell, executive director of the South Granville BIA, said in the release, “and what better way than to enjoy great times together outdoors at our weekly TGIF pod—safely distanced on the benches throughout the park?”
