B.C. drink recipes: El Mino Mocktail and ginger beer from Vancouver's Nuba

      For those looking for refreshing beverage ideas without alcohol, Vancouver's Lebanese restaurant Nuba has come to the rescue.

      Here are two non-alcoholic drink recipes that make use of ginger as ingredients.

      El Mino Mocktail

      Ingredients
      1 oz of turmeric and cardamom syrup (see below)
      1 oz of lemon juice
      0.75 oz freshly squeezed ginger
      citrus kombucha of choice (we use Raincoast Kombucha)
      ice

      Method
      Stir syrup, lemon, and ginger juice together in a short glass.
      Add ice.
      Top with kombucha of your choice.

      Turmeric and cardamom syrup
      Yield: 1 cup

      Ingredients
      1 tbsp of cardamom
      ½ tbsp of fresh turmeric
      1 cup water
      1 cup sugar

      Method
      Bring the water to a boil in a pot.
      Place turmeric and cardamom in reusable or disposable tea bag.
      Place in one cup of water and steep for 5 minutes.
      Stir in the sugar until it is dissolved completely.
      Reduce heat and stir until the mixture has reduced to half its original volume (about ten minutes).
      Remove from heat and allow to cool somewhat.
      Pour into a very clean jar with a tight-fitting lid.
      Keep refrigerated.

      Ginger Beer

      Ingredients
      1 oz freshly squeezed ginger juice
      1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
      1 oz agave syrup
      soda water

      Method
      Add ginger juice, lime juice, and agave syrup in a Collins glass over ice.
      Top with soda water.
      Stir to combine.
