BC Liquor Stores give you a bunch of good and informative reasons to feel good about drinking at home alone

For reasons that have always escaped us at the Straight, some folks out there have hangups about drinking alone.

Our question is: why? Is there some reason imbibing with friends is socially acceptable, but downing a double when no one’s around is a supposed red flag that you might have a problem?

Those who want the best of both worlds—drinking and some form of human contact—will be thrilled to learn that BC Liquor Stores’ popular tasting-room program is making a return, but in a way that’s been reimagined for COVID-19 restrictions.

Over the coming weeks, those thirsty for knowledge—and liquor—are encouraged to tune into a series of virtual events. Live sessions and prerecorded segments will include an Instagram Live wine taste-testing with Mijune Pak, a history of Absolut vodka hosted by Jacob Sweetapple, and Summer Spirit Scottish whisky explorations with Andrew Laing and Bryan Simpson.

Keep in mind that Summer Spirit forms will have to filled out in advance between July 2 and 5 here. And remember: there’s no reason to feel weird about drinking even though your fellow liquor enthusiasts can't physically pass the Ardbeg.
