For fans of a certain Nashville hot chicken in East Vancouver—DL Chicken Shack (also known as the Downlow Chicken Shack at 905 Commercial Drive)—will be interested to know that it has joined forces with two other establishments to offer new cross-cultural culinary creations.

One is a limited-time offer, and the other is an ongoing addition to a menu.

      Taco time

Tomorrow (April 13), DL Chicken Shack and Top Rope Birria, which specializes in birria tacos, are collaborating on the Quesa-Hot Chicken Taco.

Birria tacos, for those unfamiliar with them, are a traditional Mexican dish, made with beef, lamb, pork, or goat meat, filled inside corn tortillas that are fried until crispy and served with a dipping broth.

This special taco include Top Rope Birria’s tortilla and Mexican cheese blend with a DL Hot Chicken tender, pickled red onions, and cilantro, accompanied with a side of smoked chicken consommé for dipping. A cheese skirt (recommended) can be added on.

Also available will be Top Rope’s original QuesaBirria and Quesa-Hot Chicken Taco, in six-inch tortillas.

      Tacos are $8 for a single, $15 for a double, and $45 for a six-pack.

They’ll be available starting at noon on April 13 at the American (926 Main Street) for takeout or patio dining.

Meanwhile, DL Chicken Shack also teamed up with the Japanese snack bar Pizza Coming Soon to launch a new Pork Tonkatsu Sando ($14) earlier this month.

This Japanese-inspired sandwich features a panko fried pork cutlet, cabbage slaw, and House Bulldog Sauce on Japanese milk bread. There’s also a spicy option (from mild to extra hot).

It’s available at Pizza Coming Soon (179 East Pender Street) for pickup or delivery.
