Anyone (me) looking for an escape from the rains of Vancouver that doesn’t require the (astronomical) price of a plane ticket to literally anywhere can get a taste of the Miami sun at the soon-to-open Flamingo Room on Commercial Drive.

Located in the former Havana Theatre (itself found at the back of Havana restaurant), The Flamingo Room promises 52 table seats and six bar seats inside 900 square-feet of lush, warm, tropical oasis.

Expect bar snacks (like a Cubano and compressed watermelon with Tajin), plus expert cocktails with lots of ingredients I will certainly have to secretly Google under the table when deciding which one to pick.

The Flamingo Room is currently under construction, but fingers crossed it opens in time for the looming grey days of fall. It’s not South Beach’s Versace mansion, but I’m sure it’ll do just fine.
