Frozen nondairy dessert from Vancouver plant-based company recalled due to undeclared dairy ingredient
A frozen dessert that is identified as dairy-free has been found to have an undeclared dairy allergen in it.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced on July 3 that Vancouver-based Daiya Foods Inc., which makes plant-based food, issued a recall for specific nondairy frozen desserts because milk was not declared as an ingredient on the label.
The affected product, sold in B.C. and Alberta, is Daiya’s Classic Vanilla Creme Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert (473 millilitre) with UPC 8 71459 00984 1 and code 600820 BB 08 JA 2021.
Then, on July 7, the CFIA announced that the recall had been expanded to products sold in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and possibly distributed nationally.
Anyone who has this products should dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase.
Thus far, there haven’t been any reactions reported as a result of consuming the product. However, anyone who is allergic to milk should not consume it, as it could cause a life-threatening reaction.
