Just before lockdowns started, a strip mall in one of Vancouver’s foodie havens came on the market.

Lee & Associates listed 701 Kingsway, a retail property that serves as home to a number of popular eateries.

These include Sal y Limón, voted by Straight readers in 2020 as one of the best Mexican restaurants in the city.

Another is Straight Outta Brooklyn Pizzeria, picked by readers of this paper in 2017 as best pizza by the slice.

The property at the northeast corner of Kingsway and Fraser Street likewise serves as host to a community favourite, Ba Le, a Vietnamese sandwich shop.

Across from Fraser Street is the so-called ‘golden triangle’, where a number of dining establishments are also found.

One is Les Faux Bourgeois, recently reviewed by Straight editor Charlie Smith, who described the French bistro as Vancouver’s “perfect pandemic restaurant”.

Across the triangle on Kingsway are shops and other dining places.

All in all, the area around the intersection of Kingsway and Fraser Street is part of what locals call Fraserhood.

Based on tracking by real-estate site Zealty.ca, the 701 Kingsway strip mall was listed on March 4, 2020.

Available records do not indicate a sale has happened.

The listing carries a $15,888,000 price tag.

A Lee and Associates brochure indicates that a sale presents an opportunity to consolidate the strip mall with three single-family lots to the east.

The material also mentions the potential of redeveloping the site for a six-storey, mixed-use building for residential and commercial purposes.
