Lucky Taco to open second location in Vancouver’s River District

Kitsilano’s well-loved Lucky Taco is launching its second location in South Vancouver's River District.

Set to officially open its doors on February 24, the 30-seat restaurant promises to bring the same energy and mouth-watering bites—like the Baja pescado, chicken tinga, and crispy cauliflower tacos—that its Kitsilano regulars have come to love.

Also available at the River District location will be classic bites including chicharrones, Mexican-style corn, and nachos, with a range of tequila and mezcal cocktails to enjoy alongside them. We’re fans of the Mexicano—made with blanco tequila, aperol, vermouth, Mexican coke.

Heading up the kitchen is executive chef Christian Chaumont (Tutlpec, Cuchillo), a Monterrey, Mexico native known for his contemporary take on his native cuisine.

“We first opened Lucky Taco in Kits because we ourselves were looking for this local watering hole-type place that was not only fun, bright, and high-energy, but also offered great eats and drinks,” says partner James Iranzad (of parent group Gooseneck Hospitality) in a release. “This is also what we hope to offer the River District community with the opening of our new Lucky Taco. People who want to have a quick happy hour snack and drink with a friend, or bring their family for an enjoyable dinner. We’ve had many beloved regular research trips to Mexico over the years, exploring Oaxaca, Jalisco, Baja, and of course Mexico City. There is simply nothing like the bold flavours of Mexican food.”

In addition to the indoor space, there will be a 25-seat patio to dine al fresco in the warmer months. The interior is designed by award-winning firm Ste. Marie Studio, which means we might just have another contender for Vancouver’s prettiest restaurants—though we’ll have to wait until February 24 to find out.
