Sandwich search: Dalina and Oroweat Organic's three 50 Mile Menu sandwiches highlight B.C. ingredients

      During the pandemic, shopping local is one way to support B.C. businesses and the economy during these economically challenging times.

      Another way to do so is to eat local ingredients and food products (while also cutting down on emissions required for shipping items from long distances).

      In that respect, Vancouver grocer and café Dalina collaborated with Oroweat Organic bread (baked in Langley) to offer a special 50 Mile Menu, created by Dalina chef Matt Sanderson.

      The menu is comprised of three limited-edition sandwiches ($8 each), all made with local ingredients from Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley—as the menu name indicates, all suppliers are located within 50 miles of Vancouver.

      The options are:

      • roasted chicken: chicken from Burnaby’s Cioffi’s Meat Market, and sourced from Langley’s Britco Farms; Charmisan cheese (Parmigiano-Reggiano style) from Maple Ridge’s Golden Ears Cheesecrafters; butter lettuce from Langley’s CubicFarms; arugula, lemon balm, and basil supplied by Surrey’s Barnston Island Herbs; and Oroweat Organic 100-percent Whole Grain bread;
      • porchetta with fresh herbs: pork belly from Burnaby’s Cioffi’s Meat Market, and sourced from Langley’s Britco Farms; parsley, thyme, and oregano from Surrey’s Evergreen Herb Farms; and Oroweat Organic 22 Grains and Seeds bread;
      • roasted portobello mushroom (vegan): portobello mushrooms from Abbotsford’s Your Wildest Foods; thyme, sunchokes, leeks, and oregano from Surrey’s Evergreen Herb Farms; butter lettuce from Surrey’s CubicFarms; and Oroweat Organic Quinoa and Sunflower Seeds bread.

      These sandwiches were originally scheduled to only be available until Sunday (March 14) but the menu has been extended to be available until March 28.

      They're available at Dalina's two locations (992 Broadway or 687 Main Street), and they’re also available for pickup or delivery. Full details are available at the Dalina website.
