The team behind the ever-busy Potluck Hawker Eatery on Cambie is expanding east to Mount Pleasant with a new takeout-focused venture.

Street Hawker will operate at 3088 Main Street with an emphasis on Southeast Asian-influenced sandwiches, burgers, fries, and milkshakes in flavours like mango, milo, and ube. The burgers and sandwiches will incorporate outside-the-box ingredients like salted egg yolk, chili crab, and nasi lemak.

Taking up two floors, the 1000-square-foot space will feature a total of 28 loft and patio seats, with graffiti artist Naks (aka Aime Milot) helping shape the vibe of the room.

Guiding both Potluck Hawker and Street Hawker are Dominic Sai, Lynn Sakai-Boden, Darren Chuang, and Justin Cheung.

In a release chef and co-owner Cheung said, “We wanted to bring the energy of a traditional hawker stand to Main Street, but with a West Coast feel, where people can come in for a quick meal or take out, featuring delicious Southeast Asian-style handhelds and treats. We decided on burgers and sandos because guests already love our versions at Potluck. Street Hawker allows us to expand on that menu and be even more creative with our offerings. One of my favourites that’s to come is the Malay-O-Fish with breaded fish, sambal, and coconut ranch.”

Watch for Street Hawker to open in late spring.

The team behind Potluck Hawker is promising a vibe that combines urban West Coast with the energy of an Asian street stall.
