It has been quite the journey for the little orange taco truck.

First opened in 2009 at the back of the Live to Surf parking lot near the windy shores of Tofino, Tacofino has since spread the good word of the holy taco down the island to Victoria, across the Strait of Georgia to Vancouver, and now, finally, up the Sea-To-Sky corridor to Squamish.

The latest expansion for the restaurant franchise, Tacofino Squamish, opened today (September 11) at the Squamish Station shopping centre. It offers menu items that have become iconic at the existing locations, and adds some hometown flair with a list of local beers. The restaurant is now open for dine-in, takeout, and delivery from 11am to 10pm seven days a week.

But that’s not the only exciting news for local taco aficionados.

A handful of Tacofino locations are set to open in early 2024, with Tacofino Burnaby landing in Station Square on McKay Avenue; Tacofino White Rock opening in the Miramar complex; and Tacofino Langford bringing another option to the island at Westshore Town Centre.

“These vibrant areas have been on our radar for quite some time,” says Gino Di Domenico, Tacofino managing partner, in a release, “and we couldn’t be more excited to finally be a part of their communities.”

This bolsters the already existing lineup of locations: six in Vancouver (Hastings-Sunrise, Yaletown, Gastown, downtown, Mount Pleasant, Kitsilano); one in Victoria (Pandora Ave.); and, of course, the food truck that started it all, which still sits pretty in the Live to Surf parking lot.
