Talking Stick Festival kicks off February 18 with gala featuring M’Girl, Ostwelve, and Wayne Lavallee

      The 20th annual Talking Stick Festival kicks off tonight (February 18) with a gala online performance titled A Gathering of Hearts & Spirit.

      The Facebook event, hosted by Chief Ian Campbell and Amanda Nahanee, will feature performances by M’Girl, Ostwelve, Tzokam with Russell Wallace, and Wayne Lavallee.


      Other festival events include From Talking Stick to Microphone, in which Nyla Carpentier (Tahltan/Kaska) leads a poetic evening in honour of East Van ghetto poet Zaccheus Jackson Nyce (Blackfoot); Rez Bluez, a workshop exploring the uncovered history and musical relationship of Indigenous peoples and the evolution of the blues, featuring Murray Porter, Pura Fe, and Crystal Shawanda; and A Virtual Dance Party that closes the festival with a livestream performance by DJ O Show and DJ Kookum.
