With bowls layered with fresh veggies and fruits, fish, and sauces, it’s no surprise that Westcoast Poké has become a popular restaurant among Vancouverites. Since opening its first location in 2016, the eatery has stolen the hearts of all who enjoy diving fork-first into a poké bowl.
Offering a tasty menu that accommodates people with dietary preferences and restrictions has always been important to the three high school friends who started Westcoast Poké. Those who stuck to gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan diets can still experience the Hawaiian cuisine.
Both the Vancouver (463 West 8th Avenue) and Richmond (3030-11666 Steveston Highway) locations serve delicious chef-created bowls and build-your-own customizable options for takeout and delivery.
The eatery is also no stranger to winning, especially when it comes to the Straight’s Golden Plates awards. Its readers have, once again, voted Westcoast Poké into the #1 spot in the category of “Best Poké”.
And to celebrate its win, Westcoast Poké is hosting a giveaway through its website. Enter for a chance to win one of three prizes: a $100 gift card and customizable poké BYOBar catering for 10 people ($250 value), a $100 gift card, and a $50 gift card.
Now, about the poké—the restaurant boasts a feature bowl each month, perfect for those who’ve already eaten their way through the regular menu. The Musubi Bowl is its current special, which highlights kimchi and a soy-ramen egg.
In addition to filling customers’ bellies, Westcoast Poké is working toward its goal of becoming a waste-free restaurant. The team has implemented several practises that keep food scraps out of the trash.
For example, the lemongrass, ginger, garlic, and shiitake mushrooms used in its gluten-free Shoyu recipe are repurposed into Burnt Miso Chili Oil. The sauce packs a punch of flavour and is unique to Westcoast Poké. It was recently named a finalist for the Made in Vancouver Awards.
Because it’s hard getting enough poké, the restaurant has a rewards program that offers customers free food, birthday deals, and exclusive promotions. People who join online or in-store will receive $1 off their next order.
The fast-casual restaurant also caters events of all sizes. Folks can build their own bowls at a take-home bar, choose from a selection of classic bowls, or opt for Westcoast Oshi.
