Vancouver an official destination as The Dalmore’s highly coveted Cask Curation Series launches

There are a few ways to come at it, starting perhaps with this: you’ve got some equity in your East Side detached home, Yaletown condo, or 100 Mile House cabin, so you might as well use it to celebrate.

Or, let’s face it, you did absolutely nothing to deserve that inheritance from that great uncle you only met once at a family Thanksgiving dinner in 1997, so you don’t have to feel guilty about something you never expected to see in the first place.

Now that you’ve got the green light to do some spending, here’s a heads-up that Vancouver whisky disciples are about to get a crack at the first rollout of The Dalmore’s Cask Curation Series, which features four speciality releases over a period of four years.

The series kicks off this fall with The Dalmore’s Sherry Edition, featuring three bottles of statement whiskies, each finished in sherry casks under the watchful eye of fifth-generation winemakers from González Byass in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

Only 150 sets of the editions are being made available around the world. In Canada, one of them is going to Toronto, and the other to Vancouver.

But the catch is that you’ve got to get lucky before you can break out the platinum Mastercard. With another caveat that the set headed to Vancouver will run you $60,000 plus tax.

On November 15, BC Liquor will hold a draw at its 39th and Cambie store, where the winner gets to purchase The Dalmore’s Cask Curation Series Sherry Edition. Entries will be accepted from 4 to 7pm, with the winning ticket to be pulled at 7:15pm.

There’s also a special Dalmore Event from 5 to 7pm where you can discuss your love of your favourite Scottish distiller with your fellow aficionados. Tickets are $50.

The three whiskies in the Sherry Edition are:

      • The 26YO Vintage Sherry Finish, which is matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks and finished in González Byass sherry casks from 2002.
      • The 28YO Matusalem Finish, which, after spending time in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, was finished in an ultra-rare 30-year-old Matusalem sherry cask.
      • The 43YO Apostoles Finish, also matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, followed by finishing in a 30-year-old Apostoles sherry cask.

As noted, this is just the start of The Dalmore Cask Curation Series. Next year will bring a Port Edition, followed by releases in 2026 and 2027. Each release will celebrate The Dalmore’s relationships with the world’s finest wine and spirits producers.

As for this edition, how often do you get an NHL signing bonus, or sell a screenplay, or rack up a seven-day win streak on Jeopardy!?
