Vancouver happy hours that are actually, well, happy
I love a good deal as much as the next gal (who’s paying too much in rent and just wants this city to #letmelive). So I’m on a quest to find the best happy hours in Vancouver that are actually, well, happy. Which means no “save $1 on our cheapest beer!” offers here—instead, I’m talking about the places that serve delicious options at unbeatable prices. Do I sound like a Walmart ad? Maybe.
Ignite Pizzeria
The first time I saw this deal I’m pretty sure I yelped. Every day from 2pm to 5pm and 8pm to 10pm, Ignite Pizzeria’s Main Street and Yaletown locations offer two slices of pizza and a glass of beer or house wine for $13 (how??). This is actually some of the best ‘za in the city, in my humble opinion, and two slices is the perfect amount. Also, they don’t skimp on their wine pours. Respect.
Happiest hours: Every day, 2pm to 5pm and 8pm to 10pm
Bin 4 Burger Lounge
When am I not craving a burger? Maybe only while I’m eating a burger. Every day from 3pm to 5pm, Bin 4 offers half-price burgers at its South Granville location. That means The Heritage (a classic burg) goes from $18.75 to $9.50; The Bistro (a chicken burger with brie and jam) goes from $20.75 to $12; and the Mr. Bean (a veggie patty with chickpeas and black beans) goes from $20 to $11. You can also get sides of regular fries or truffle fries for dirt cheap ($4 and $5, respectively, for a small order). One-ounce vodka and gin sodas are just $5. There’s more, which you can view here.
Happiest hours: Every day, 3pm to 5pm
House of Dosas
Every Monday at House of Dosas, all dosas (peep the options here) are $5.99. The Kingsway location is open 24 hours, which means you can get this delicious South Indian dish literally anytime. There’s not much else I can say except that I’m starting a petition to rebrand happy hours as happy days.
Happiest hours: Mondays, all day
Ophelia
Sometimes a good happy hour means I get to eat at a spot that’s a bit out of my price range for eating on the regular. Cue Ophelia in False Creek, which offers its—to use my partner’s favourite word—divine tacos for $5.50 a pop. There’s also a prawn ceviche tostada for $7.50 and the house margarita for $9.50. Full menu is here.
Happiest hours: Monday to Friday, 4pm to 5:30pm; Saturday to Sunday, 3pm to 5:30pm
Craft
Mosey over to Craft’s Olympic Village and English Bay locations for $5 house craft beers (choose between hazy ale, lager, and IPA) and $6 highballs for happy hour, which occurs every day except Saturday. Also worth noting: every week has Six Buck Tuesday, which sees house beers, glasses of bubbly, and burgers (!) for $6 apiece.
Happiest hours: Monday to Thursday, 2pm to 5pm and 9pm to close; Friday 2pm to 5pm; Sunday 9pm to close
Relish
You know what I love? A happy hour that is more than just an hour. You know what I love even more? A happy hour that actually falls somewhat into a timeframe in which I actually want to eat. Downtonw spot Relish’s happy hour is every day (even weekends!) from 2pm to 6pm, which means you can actually benefit from the food offerings—which include a burger and poutine for $6.60 each. Red Truck lagers and ales, along with highballs, are also all just $5.60.
Happiest hours: Every day, 2pm to 6pm
The Keefer Bar
Chinatown’s beloved The Keefer Bar offers 50 per cent off all bar snacks and dim sum during its happy hour. A selection of expertly-crafted cocktails are also on for $6 to $8. Arrive hungry, leave happy, amirite?
Happiest hours: Every day except Saturday, 4pm to 6pm
Gotham
If you’re feeling fancy, put on a blazer and head to the lounge inside downtown steakhouse Gotham for 40 per cent off all sparkling wine and select menu items. Beers on tap are also just $7.
Happiest hours: Every day, 3pm to 6pm (lounge only)
Aperture Coffee Bar
Don’t be fooled by the fact that it’s called a coffee bar: those in the know will be privy to this Main Street cafe’s not-so-secret back room, where you can enjoy a glass of beer or wine and tap away on your laptop or read a book. During happy hour, these libations are just $5, and the pours are generous. This is the Lord’s work.
Happiest hours: Every day, 3pm to 6pm
The Park Pub
The West End’s Park Pub offers good, clean, old-school happy hour in the form of $5 domestic beer pints, $5 house wine (five ounces), $5 highballs, $7 craft beer pints, and $8 house wine (eight ounces). This place also has some wild daily food specials, including $0.69 wings from 12pm to 9pm on Mondays, and $2.50 tacos from 12pm to 9pm on Tuesdays—only catch is that you have to order a beverage to get the deal.
Happiest hours: Every day, 4pm to 6pm
The Pawn Shop
This Mexican spot on the Granville strip has happy hour drinks for $4.95 and tacos for $2.49. The end.
Happiest hours: Tuesday and Sunday, all day; Wednesday to Saturday, 12pm to 6pm
Sandbar
Visit Granville Island’s Sandbar for an elevated tasty treat with a great view of False Creek. During happy hour, you can get mussels in white wine garlic sauce for $12, coconut shrimp for $12, and seasonal draft beer for $5.50. A small glass of house red or white wine is also just $6. Cheers to that, baby.
Happiest hours: Monday to Friday, 3pm to 5pm
Bon’s Off Broadway
Do you need happy hour when you’re literally always the cheapest place in the city? The prices at Bon’s Off Broadway (at Nanaimo Street) are stuck in 1980 and I’m here for it. Breakfast for $2.95 is iconic. Not having a website is also iconic.
Happiest hours: Literally whenever they’re open
Bayside Lounge
There’s no better place to begin, continue, or end the night than Bayside Lounge in the West End. During happy hour, things get even better at this (authentically) retro cocktail bar with $5 Caesars, $5 draft beer, $5 Jackson-Triggs wine, $5 highballs, and $7 cocktails (including cosmos and bourbon sours). Come for the deals, stay for the truly exquisite vibe.
Happiest hours: Every day, 3pm to 6pm
