Vancouver restaurants offer take-home traditional holiday meals, from turkey to vegan dishes

      If you still haven’t figured out what to do for your holiday dinner, there are plenty of options out there. We previously listed some Asian options for those seeking something beyond turkey and stuffing, as well as some meal-making kits for those who prefer the DIY (with assistance) approach.

      But for those who do want traditional fare and either don’t have the time or ability to cook a sumptuous meal, here are some possibilities for prepared meals for those who would prefer to dine at home.

      Bacchus

      Wedgewood Hotel’s Bacchus Restaurant (845 Hornby Street) has several options. Its takeout-and-heat 12 Days of Christmas meals for two to six people are available until December 23 are available in three versions through Tock online ordering: coq au vin blanc (from $72 for two) with potatoes, orange-glazed carrots, Brussels sprouts, wine-cured chorizo, and more; balsamic-glazed boneless beef shank (from $80 for two) with ricotta gnocchi, butternut squash, cauliflower gratin, and more; and lamb shanks kokkinisto (from $88) with quinoa, broccolini, roasted sunchokes, and more. For the big event, the Traditional Holiday Turkey Dinner (or two to six people, $79 per person) and includes roasted turkey breasts, confit turkey leg, sage-scented rye and sourdough stuffing, garlic-whipped Yukon potatoes, and more, with housemade Christmas pudding.

      The Lazy Gourmet

      For at-home holiday meals in addition to turkey, The Lazy Gourmet also offers pork, beef, and vegetarian options. Their Porchetta Roast Feast (for six people, $200) centres around slow-roasted pork roast with biota mustard, pickles, Italian salsa verde, garlic aioli, and Portuguese buns; red endive and frisée salad with crumbled eggs in a tarragon vinaigrette; and smashed crunchy potatoes and carmelized root vegetables. The Christmas Set Menu includes a holiday kale salad in a red wine vinaigrette, herbed focaccia bread, squash and shallot stuffing, classic mashed potatoes, roasted holiday vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, pearl onions), and apple pie with either stuffed acorn squash ($39), herb de Provence lemon roasted turkey ($39), or garlic rosemary roast beef striploin with au jus ($49) for the main course.

      Homer Street Café and Bar

      The three-course, heat-and-eat Homer for the Holidays ($85) can be picked up from Homer Street Café and Bar on December 22 and 23. Butternut squash velouté precedes sage-roasted Hayter’s Farms turkey with mashed potatoes, stuffing, roasted Brussels sprouts, and honey-glazed carrots, plus shortbread and molasses cookies for dessert. Four wine packages can be added on: The Cab ($149), B.C. Pinot ($158), The Bordeaux ($197), and French Bubbles Discovery ($147).

      H Tasting Lounge

      The Westin Bayshore’s H Tasting Lounge is offering its Festive Turkey Takeout. Revolving around either Rossdown Farms free-range turkey or honey-and-clove-glazed ham are accompaniments such as brioche stuffing with leek, apple, and turkey sausage; honey-glazed root vegetables; and more. A chocolate yule cake log finishes it all off. that serves either six to eight people ($350) or 10 to 12 ($450), available for pickup from December 24 to 26. For individuals, couples, or different numbers, the Festive Carvery To-Go offers the same items for $59 person.

      Railtown Catering

      Railtown Catering is serving its Turkey-To-Go packages for its eighth year running. The packages feature sage-roasted turkey with traditional giblet gravy; dried apricot, chestnut, and brioche bread stuffing; maple-glazed sweet potatoes and mashed Yukon gold potatoes , buttered carrots, Brussels sprouts with toasted almonds, sweet butter pecan pie, and more. There are two options: the full package, with a pre-sliced whole 16-pound turkey for  eight to 10 people ($349) or half the package for up to five people ($249). Add-ons include vegan acorn stuffed squash, with heirloom wild rice, roasted cremini mushrooms, red-wine-and-cassis-braised cabbage, wilted kale, and caramelized squash purée. Also, an AAA, slow-roasted angus prime rib (for eight to 10 people) can be added on for $195. Plus, the good news is that partial proceeds of these packages will go to the nonprofit Downtown Eastside program Mission Possible. The deadline has been extended to Monday (December 21) so get a move on before its too late.

      Sequoia Company of Restaurants

      All four of the Sequoia Company of Restaurants—which includes the Teahouse in Stanley ParkSeasons in the ParkCardero’s, and The Sandbar—are offering three-course Holiday Turkey Dinner to Go takehome meals ($79 for two people) with butternut squash soup, oven-roasted white and dark turkey, mashed potatoes, classic stuffing, Brussels sprouts, glazed carrots, and gravy. Each restaurant will include its own signature housemade dessert.

      The focus may be on Christmas dinner but what about the morning of? While there are many options for brunching out, the vast majority of people prefer to stay at home on Christmas morning. Although Edge Catering is offering Christmas Dinner with either roasted turkey or pork loin dinners ($80 for two or $240 for six), there’s also the Epic Christmas Breakfast (starting at $80), with pancakes or french toast ($35); Holiday Continental ($15), with biscotti, blueberry orange muffin, yogurt, granola, and fruit parfait; mimosas ($25) or Baileys and coffee ($45), and more.
