A specialty liquor retailer regarded as the best beer store in Vancouver has proposed to expand its shop.

Brewery Creek Liquor Store filed an application for a development permit before city hall to increase the size of its business at 3045 Main Street.

The development involves the adjacent space to the south, which operates as an ice cream shop.

If approved, the expansion at 3075 Main Street would add around 1,815 square feet to the business, bringing the space to a total of 4,760 square feet.

Georgia Straight readers have voted Brewery Creek as the best beer store in the city since 2013.

The business is owned by Fred Wilson and Gary Reilly.

Brewery Creek takes pride in offering the best selection of quality beers, with over 1,000 craft brews from local and international sources.

The store also carries a range of wines and liquor.

In a letter to the city, the store noted that it is currently limisting customer traffic to four people at a time because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Customers awaiting entry queue outside the door, with the lineup running south in front of the development site.

“If the expansion plans are granted, customers would enter the store at the site of the development at 3075 Main Street and exit through the existing door at 3045 Main Street,” according to the business.

The store added that if pandemic restrictions are still in place after the expansion, the additional space will allow it to “permit a greater number of customers in the store at one time”.
