COVID-19 in B.C.: More people in hospitals with the disease but fewer in intensive care

      On Tuesday (May 4) B.C.'s provincial health officer and health minister announced 697 new cases of COVID-19.

      Meanwhile, the number of people with the disease in intensive care fell by three to 173.

      There are 486 people in hospital with COVID-19, up 12 from yesterday's briefing by Dr. Bonnie Henry and Adrian Dix.

      There was one new COVID-19 death, lifting the provincial total to 1,597.

      In their joint statement, Henry and Dix said that the best way to reserve a vaccination dose is to register on the Get Vaccinated website or by calling 1-833-838-2323.

      “Today, we are adding pregnant persons 16 and older to those who are eligible to book their vaccine," they said. 

      Currently, there are 7,161 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C. Another 10,961 people are being monitored after being exposed to known cases.

      More than 123,000 people have recovered from COVID-19 in B.C.
