The biggest and glitziest New Year's Eve 2018 parties in Vancouver

    1 of 13 2 of 13

2017 may have been largely trash, but that doesn't mean you should spend December 31 at home wallowing in misery. In fact, if you're a believer of the adage that "how you spend New Year's is how you'll spend the rest the rest of your year", the date offers an opportunity to start 2018 with a bang—preferably with a glass of bubbly and your closest pals on hand.

Below, we've rounded up the biggest, glitziest, and most lavish NYE fetes happening in Vancouver and all the necessary details (i.e., what's in it for you, enforced dress codes, and the cost), so you can make an informed decision about where you'll want to be when the clock strikes midnight.

Ringing in 2018 on a budget? Check out our roundup of the best budget-friendly NYE events (in other words, shindigs with under-$40 admission) taking place in Vancouver.

New Year’s at the Hotel Vancouver

From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. at Fairmont Hotel Vancouver (900 West Georgia Street)

What’s in it for me?  This is one of Vancouver’s largest NYE celebrations and with good reason:  the mega-fete is more of a collection of mini parties situated conveniently on a single floor—in one of the city’s most storied buildings, no less—so you can hop from one to another as your heart desires. Break it down to bass-heavy house and throwback anthems in the B.C. Ballroom, for example, then take in underground techno in the Waddington Room. Disco lives on in the Pacific Ballroom while the Vancouver Island VIP Room offers groovy space-age tunes.

Is there a dress code?  Not officially, but given snaps from past events and the nature of the venue, you should probably dress to impress.

How much will this set back me back?  Tickets start at $75 online.

NYE 2018 with Axwell Λ Ingrosso

From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. at Pacific Coliseum (100 North Renfrew Street)

What’s in it for me?  Ringing in the New Year outside the downtown core means you’ll have a slightly better chance of catching a cab home once all is said and done. Swedish electro-house duo Axwell and Ingrosso, as well as Andrew Rayel, DubVision, DJ Isaac, and homeboy Daijo, make pretty decent headliners, too. Warning to above-19 attendees: this event is all ages so parent-supervised preteens in the crowd are pretty much a given.

Is there a dress code?  Are kandi bracelets still a thing?

How much will this set back me back?  Tickets start at $140 online.

Telus World of Science NYE 2018

      From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. at Science World (1455 Quebec Street)

What’s in it for me?  Science World may be a place of learning throughout the year but it consistently pulls out all the stops for special occasions like New Year’s Eve, when the venue is transformed into a 1,100-person-capacity club outfitted with a state-of-the-art sound-and-lighting system. Eight DJs will spin on two separate floors during the evening and five fully licensed bars will ensure there are minimal waits for the sauce.

Is there a dress code?  Yes, semi-formal attire is required. Caps, T-shirts, and sneakers are strictly forbidden.

How much will this set back me back?  Tickets start at $80 online and include a champagne toast.

      Frozen in Time NYE 2018

From 9:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. at Harbour Event Centre (750 Pacific Boulevard)

What’s in it for me?  A new event on Vancouver’s NYE calendar, Frozen in Time will see its venue transformed into a winter wonderland replete with chilly visuals and what promises to be the city’s largest LED wall display. Music will be provided by local DJs Physik, Arems, Maiyah, and Chimes, while confetti canons and a balloon drop will signal that 2018 has arrived.

Is there a dress code?  Not that we can see, but we may suggest going with the “Frozen in Time” theme and rocking some icy white lashes or brows? Or a long, blue, semi-sheer gown à la Disney’s Elsa?

How much will this set back me back?  Tickets start at $40 online and include party favours and a champagne toast.

      NYE 2018 at Republic Mansion

      From 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. at Republic (958 Granville Street)

What’s in it for me?  An opportunity to party in a space that feels like a flashy Tinseltown mansion without throwing down for a flight. Expect hip hop, R&B, and reggae being spun in two rooms by an all-star roster of local DJs and producers.

Is there a dress code?  Dress to impress. This is Hollywood, baby!

How much will this set back me back?  Tickets start at $45 online and include a mini bottle of bubbly.

      NYElectric 2018

From 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Marriott Pinnacle Vancouver (1128 West Hastings Street)

What’s in it for me?  Three words: two. Hour. Appetizer. Buffet. Okay, that’s a little more than three, but from 10 p.m. to midnight, you can chow down on unlimited bites while jamming out to DJs throwing down beats in two different rooms. Expect electronic and top-40 hits on the playlist, plus next-level lighting and sound systems for the swankiest NYE experience possible.

Is there a dress code?  Not officially, but again, we recommend erring on the fancy side.

How much will this set back me back?  Tickets start at $89 online and include appetizers and party favours.

      Le Ritz NYE 2018

From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. at Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront (1133 West Hastings Street)

What’s in it for me?  A newly renovated space decorated with luxe Hollywood-inspired décor, stunning waterfront vistas, and endless Instagram opportunities thanks to a number of art installations spread across the venue. There will also be a midnight snack bar, complimentary welcome drinks, DJs, and live performances by local talent.

Is there a dress code?  Yes, as per the event page, “glamourous attire” is suggested.

How much will this set back me back?  Tickets start at $80 online.

      NYE 2018 at Waldorf Hotel

From 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. at the Waldorf Hotel (1489 East Hastings Street)

What’s in it for me?  If you’re looking for a party outside the downtown core, it doesn’t get much better than at the historic Waldorf. The East Van venue is hosting a multi-room bash for NYE that will see performances from a bevy of homegrown acts, including electronic duo Blue Hawaii, local beach-rock quartet Peach Pit, and DJs Kash Honey and Sincerely Hanna.

Is there a dress code?  Come as you are.

How much will this set back me back?  Tickets start at $60 online.

      Speakeasy New Year’s Eve 2018

From 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Magic Spirit Yacht (departing from 750 Pacific Boulevard)

What’s in it for me?  A cruise along Vancouver’s beautiful waterfront where you can belt out every word of the Lonely Island’s supremely catchy “I’m On a Boat” and actually mean it. The 1920s-style soiree will also have a selection of food onboard—including veggie-friendly options—and two DJs hammering out electronic and top-40 tracks. The lit-up skyline and fireworks make great Instagram fodder, too.

Is there a dress code?  Flapper attire is encouraged but not required. Semi-formal cocktail apparel is a must.

How much will this set back me back?  Tickets start at $115 online and include appetizers and party favours.

      NYE 2018 Waterfront Gala

From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. at the Fairmont Waterfront (900 Canada Place)

What’s in it for me?  Get a front-row seat to the fireworks downtown without braving the cold at this hotel bash, where you can nibble on appies, revel in three separate balloon drops, and dance the night away in two rooms: one playing a mix of top-40 and throwback hits, the other spinning old-school R&B jams. A photobooth and red-carpet entrance should also be expected.

Is there a dress code?  “Chic and sassy” (whatever that means) for the gals; jackets or suits for the guys.

How much will this set back me back?  Tickets start at $140 online and include appetizers, party favours, a champagne toast, and access to an after party at Cabana Lounge (1159 Granville Street).

      Cirque Gala NYE 2018

      From 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. at the Imperial (319 Main Street)

What’s in it for me?  Forget the confetti and balloon drops: the Imperial does it big with a cirque-themed soiree for NYE complete with silk aerialists, stilt walkers, jugglers, hoop performers, and costumed dancers roaming throughout. Two separate rooms will play EDM, top 40, and hip hop.

Is there a dress code?  No, but the theme is cirque and it's NYE, so it doesn't hurt to go a little over the top.

How much will this set back me back?  Tickets start at $50 online.

      NYE Illuminate 2018

From 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. at the Opus Hotel (322 Davie Street)

What’s in it for me?  Two rooms stacked with the city’s top DJs so you can bust a move accordingly; 10 Ciroc tables that will help you temporarily forget everything that went terribly, terribly wrong in 2017; and a grand red-carpet entrance that will have you feeling like a star even if you’ve been unproductive trash since January.

Is there a dress code?  Yes, the event is “fully formal” and jeans or runners are not allowed.

How much will this set back me back?  Tickets start at $45 online.
